New Toy Company Empowers Female Engineers

ImageThe underrepresentation of women in the science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) fields is staggering, and some women are starting to speak out. CEO of GoldieBlox, Debbie Sterling, launched a new company targeted at subverting gender stereotypes via girl-oriented engineering toys. GoldieBlox has developed a series of interactive books and games aimed at disrupting “the pink aisle” and inspiring “the future generation of female engineers.” And, boy did they get attention! Since their commercial (see post below) aired two weeks ago, GoldieBlox has been featured on ABC News, the Huffington Post, CNBC, Forbes, the Wall Street Journal, and much more! GoldieBlox inventor and CEO, Debbie Sterling says she was inspired to launch this idea after graduating as one of the few females in her Mechanical Engineering/Product Design program at Stanford. Her mission is to bring the joy of engineering to girls of all ages, empowering girls to challenge the dated (and totally incorrect) stereotype that girls can’t “cut it” in the STEM disciplines. So, ladies, are you ready to get inspired? Let’s show ‘em what we’ve got!
